Lindsay Reilly was part of the initial exploration trip while she was working at the Theological College of Zimbabwe (TCZ) during the summer of 2004.   During her time in Zimbabwe, the local church demonstrated true hospitality and friendship that challenged her understanding of community, and being part of the body of Christ.

Professionally, Lindsay has worked in community development in Africa for the past 5 years (2 as a student at Messiah College).  Most recently, she was based in Ethiopia, working with indigenous HIV/AIDS organizations under an USAID grant.

Q: What is unique about the ministry of Forgotten Voices?

A:
"True generosity consists in fighting to destroy the causes which nourish false charity. False charity constrains the fearful and subdued, the "rejects of life" to extend their trembling hands.  True generosity lies in striving so that these hands – whether of individuals or entire peoples – need to be extended less and less in supplication, so that more and more they become human hands which work, and working, transform the world." Paulo Freire The Pedagogy of the Oppressed (p45)

Forgotten Voices is partnering with the local church in such a way that false charity will never grow.  Our ministry acknowledges that the local church must be the hands which work, hands that transform, hands that fight day after day to heal the wounds of the inflicted in Zimbabwe.  The beauty of FVI lies in the stories gathered by these hands.  These stories continue to remind us that Christ is alive and at work in the most desolate regions of the world, against ridiculous economic odds, and political distress.
