Nathan Shaffer

Nathan Shaffer, Executive Director (Volunteer)

Nate joined Forgotten Voices International in 2005 as a volunteer partnership coordinator. In 2007, he and his wife, Ellen, became the volunteer Directors of Church Relations. Over a three year period, they worked to forge relationships between US churches and churches in southern Africa. Today, Nate serves as our volunteer Executive Director. Nate is responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of Forgotten Voices and managing our network of volunteers.

Nate graduated from Messiah College in 2005 with a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. During college, his passion for serving disadvantaged populations was strengthened by the opportunity to use his engineering training to develop de-mining and prosthetic technologies for land mine-affected regions (focusing on Nicaragua and Honduras). Post graduation, he continued studying business processes improvement and change management. Today he works for The Patriot-News as an applications integration specialist. He lives with his wife and son in Grantham, PA.

Q. What excites you most about Forgotten Voices?

A: As a new parent, I can't imagine the fear I would experience if I were dying and didn't know what would happen to my child after I passed away. Our work equips churches to come alongside parents in this devastating situation and make a plan for the future care of their children.
