8.6.12 We are stewards of God’s property. Let’s live our lives responsibly.
Rev. Salani Hlongwani concluded the Bulawayo Free Methodist Church Revival with a powerful story on a Sunday morning worship service. Our theme for the revival was “As we wait for the Lord…” As he concluded his sermon he told the worshippers that there was a commercial farmer whose farm was at the foot of a mountain. The mountain was high such that when on top of it one could see everything that was going on in the farm. One day he told his servants that he was going to go away [abroad] for a six month visit. He left everything under the custodian of the farm manager and bade farewell to all his servants. He drove away to the airport to catch a plane. But before he had driven far, he pulled off behind the mountain and he climbed up. While on top of the mountain he looked at what his servants were doing. He saw the manager unlocking his house and picking for himself a suit from his master’s wardrobe. The manager also called his wife to pick some nice dresses from her mistress’ wardrobe. Children were also called and they ran after the toys of the farmer’s kids. Those who were looking after cattle started slaughtering some livestock and made a great party and enjoyed themselves. The farmer took a video of all what he saw and climbed down the mountain and drove to the air-port.
After six months he called the manager and told him that he was on his way back. The manager alerted every worker in the farm. All the farm workers did all in their power to put things in order. Upon arrival the farmer called everyone to the big hall where he usually showed his workers some videos. First he showed videos when he and his family boarded the plane, then on lots of things they did and saw when abroad. The farm community was very excited. Eventually he put the video he had taken on his farm. When the kids saw the farm manager and his wife unlocking and getting into their Master’s house they shouted with excitement. Eventually they also saw themselves enjoying the party and scrambling for the toys of their Master’s kids. The hall was eventually dead silent as all people; including children bow their heads in shame.
Everything we do is recorded and we will be judged according to our response to the Gospel call and our deeds. God sees everything. When the Son of Man comes on earth, will he find faith? Will we be among saints who will lift up their heads and run to meet the Lord?
It is certain that Jesus is coming for a second time. As the Lord has entrusted us with his possessions, let’s allow His Spirit to control our lives that we will be able to render proper stewardship.
Prayer request: Let’s pray that the church will live responsibly that we be found blameless when the Lord returns for us.
