8.13.12 – Jesus Served Out of Compassion – So Should His Church

Whenever Jesus reached out to meet the needs of people – either one enslaved by sin (John 8:1-11; Mt 23:37), or one in an unfortunate situation, with infirmities or bereaved (Mt 20:34; Mark 1:41; Luke 7:13) – He was moved by compassion from the Heart of His Father.   Ministry to the disenfranchised or to the poor should be done out of the Shepherd’s heart full of compassion. As we join many Godly people around the world in meeting the needs of the poor and respond to the crisis facing us, let’s allow God’s Spirit to move us to act with justice and mercy.

There however seems to be compassion fatigue - I believe caused by worldliness - in many of us Christians. The poor are always with us, so the church must reach out with compassion that comes from the Heart of Christ. Let the Lord’s love motivate His church.  Amen.

Let’s pray that James 1:27 will find place in the hearts and application in the lives of today’s believers.
