Impact: Currently helping 21 children back to school (with a goal of 80) and sewing/empowerment projects for 32 widows; construction of a hammer mill that is used for grinding corn, providing sustainability.
This project identified a community need for hammering mealie, known as corn in the USA. This now provides a service to the area’s farmers, and is starting to generate income for the church to sustain their orphaned care ministry.
Funds raised will provide for school requirements, as well as provide food supplements for the kids and their caretakers. The project also wants to host semi-annual retreats for orphans to address their psycho-social/counseling needs and just let kids be kids for a weekend a couple times a year.
When you visit Lubuto, you see hope in the faces of those that are working hard on behalf of vulnerable kids. They’ve long worked hard to love these children, but now see a way forward with the hammermill. The hope they have longed for is beginning to arrive and the excitement is contagious. You cannot help but smile and give thanks to God for the way business, love, and community needs converge to demonstrate Christ’s love to those in need.
