Brethren in Christ Church Orphan Care Project, Copperbelt, Zambia PDF Print E-mail

Copperbelt, Zambia

Impact:

  • School  fees and other services provided for 100 orphaned children
  • Assistance provided for 10 home-based care patients
  • Empowering, sustainable training in microfinance and other care provided for 60 widows

The Brethren in Christ Church on the Copperbelt was originally receiving assistance for its orphan care ministry programs from the mother church in Choma. When available funding decreased due to the overwhelming demand for help across the major ministry areas of the BICC, the Copperbelt churches joined together to find ways of continuing to help orphans already in their program. This is how the Orphan Care Project was started, coordinated by Pastor Matthews Munangobe. Through the partnership with Forgotten Voices, the church has seen most of the orphans in their care finish school, and others continue with their education after having briefly stopped. Widows, some of whom are HIV-positive, are being empowered in sustainable projects that they themselves initiate, such as poultry raising and vegetable gardening. Christ’s love is being demonstrated in practice through your donations to Forgotten Voices!
