- Provide psychosocial support and spiritual counseling to orphans and vulnerable children and their caregivers.
Mahatshula Brethren in Christ Church is located in the medium-density suburb of Mahatshula in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. The church believes that they have a mission to fulfill in their community – to extend the warmth of God’s love to the less fortunate and to give hope to orphaned and vulnerable children. As a result, the church has an established, organized, coordinated existing orphan care outreach that targets orphaned and vulnerable children in their community. Members of the OVC committee identify children, assess their needs, and find church or community resources to meet these needs.
Mahatshula BIC strongly believes in supporting children in their homes and strengthening these family structures. As they stated in their Forgotten Voices partnership application,
“In working to meet their needs, it is important to remember that they are children. They love to play, go to school and make mistakes now and then….hence the church endeavors to assist children in meaningful way that will bring life in its fullness.”
The church has been doing just that, by sourcing and providing food, paying school fees for the most vulnerable, and offering counseling and spiritual support to children. They are excited to partner with Forgotten Voices to help them grow and develop in ways that will ensure that the project is both community-based and owned to ensure their self-sustainability. In the long-run, Mahatshula BIC wants to be able to benefit generations to come!
We look forward to partnering with Mahatshula BIC to help equip their orphan care ministry to develop and grow in order to achieve these goals!
