Emganwini Church of Christ is located in the Bulawayo suburb of Emganwini, a neighborhood with a HIV prevalence of HIV/AIDS. The church is very active in reaching out to its members as well as the community, addressing their psychological, emotional, spiritual and physical needs. To meet these needs, various church committees regularly organize and oversee prayer services, home group bible studies, worship services, food and clothing donations, provision of health services, and home and hospital visitations.
Recognizing the increasing numbers of orphans resulting from HIV/AIDS in their community, in 2006, Emganwini Church of Christ formally created their OVC ministry, “Ray of Hope Trust”. The main objective of Ray of Hope Trust is to promote the well-being of OVCs and their caregivers. In order to carry out this objective, they offer psychosocial support services, they strengthen the capacity of the Emganwini community to care for OVCs, and they share knowledge and experience with other orphan care ministries and community organizations. To date, 800 orphans and vulnerable children have been assisted by Ray of Hope Trust! However the trust is often overwhelmed by the magnitude of the needs in their community.
As a result, Enganwini Church of Christ’s Ray of Hope Trust is excited to partner with Forgotten Voices. They are glad to have a partner to come alongside them to help equip them to meet the needs of more orphaned and vulnerable children in their community. We look forward to hearing more about the impact Ray of Hope Trust continues to have in the lives of children and caregivers within and outside of Enganwini.
