Full of energy and eager to learn, Abraham, Moses and Trust live with their elderly grandparents. Support from Bible Gospel Church of Africa (Zambia) makes it possible for them to attend school. Like most boys their age, they enjoy playing football (soccer) and riding bikes with friends; they help their family by sweeping and washing dishes.
For nineteen years, the Sakala family had no running water at their home. That changed when Ellaine Brittel Brethren in Christ Church (Zambia) partnered with Forgotten Voices. Seeing Mrs. Sakala struggle to care for her children after her husband’s illness and unemployment, the church made it a priority to ensure they had convenient access to clean water for cooking and gardening.
Grace’s life has been transformed by business training and an Income Generation Activity (IGA) grant from her church, Kawama Evangelical Church (Zambia). An active volunteer at church, her vegetable sales and poultry business now earn enough to pay school fees and meet the basic needs of the six children in her care.
The hammer mill (corn-grinding mill) at Mushili Evangelical Church (Zambia) will provide sustainable income to support the congregation’s orphan care ministry. Church leaders identified a community need, recruited volunteers to oversee the project, drafted a business plan and launched this entrepreneurial effort, leveraging an Income Generation Activity investment from Forgotten Voices.
